On Monday, March 1, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board passed a resolution in support of the installation of a four-way stop at the intersection of County Highway H and 95th Street. Based on collision history at the intersection and requirements outlined in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the Kenosha County Highway Commissioner believes that a four-way stop would assist in reducing the number of collisions at the intersection. Kenosha Settles in Bell Shooting Suit E-mail
News - Law & Order
Submitted by John Nordquist

KENOSHA - The City of Kenosha has ended the civil rights suit brought against them by the family of Michael Bell after the city council agreed to settle the case.   The Bell suit alleged that the death of Michael Bell in a police-involved shooting in 2004 violated his civil rights.

The city council voted to approve the settlement with Michael Bell's parents and sister.  Police alleged that Bell resisted arrest after a routine traffic stop and that he was shot after attempts to subdue him failed.  The incident sparked community outrage and protests, vigils and marches were organized and attended by many in Kenosha who sought answers.  Six years after the shooting incident, Michael Bell's car sits in the family driveway as a reminder of the tragedy.

Bell's father, also Michael Bell, ran for Mayor of Kenosha promising reform and reconciliation, but his campaign failed to woo voters, many of whom considered him a dark-horse candidate of revenge.   Kim Bell, Michael's mother, has become a leading online activist promoting police reform and sharing her family tragedy with others.

While the City of Kenosha's agreement to settle the case ends the lawsuit, to the family and friends and supporters of Michael Bell, the memory is forever.

Report of masked gunman closes Bain School E-mail
News - Law & Order
Submitted by John Nordquist
bainKenosha --  Kenosha Police squads and tactical units stormed Edward Bain school after separate complaints of an intruder with a gun were reported by school officials.  The midday siege of the school included a full evacuation ad room to room searches that continued even after the sachool day would have ended.  Students and staff were bussed to nearby Bradford High School.  There were no injuries or shots fired, and police have not located an intruder.   The initial report came from a student who told school officials he saw a man in dark clothes with a gun in the kindergarten section of the school.  The students report was followed by similar reports from other students, and a teachers' aide who said she saw an unidentified man with a beard.  After police re-interviewed the students and teacher, none of the reports are clearly corroborated and some students admitted they only repeated what they had heard.  Bain will be re-opened on Wednesday for normal class schedules.
